Evaluation
Question 1 - In what ways does your media product use, Develop or challenge forms and conventions of all real media?

I have answerd this Question in the form of a 'slide share'

Question 2 - How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Question 3 - What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

I have answered this question in the form of a 'Prezi' CLICK HERE TO VIEW PREZI

Question 4 - Who would be the audience for your media product and how did you attract/Address them?

My target audience for my film is for young people between the ages of 12 - 18, i am also aiming it towards young people who come from a working class background. As the genre of my film is a coming of age i feel people who are from a working class background will be able to relate more and also appreciate the character of Johnny and what he goes through. By Johnny attending a public school many people of a young age can relate and also a variety of ages as everyone has been to school at one point in there life. Public schools are very multi cultural therefore it will also relate to a variety of ethnicity's.

Focus Group
In order to help me with this question i used a focus group to get their opnion and weather they feel it relates to them

Quotes

' If more technology was used by the boy i would of related more as most young people are mostly on their phone'

' This is a film i would go and see as i love dance and i am of a similar age'

'The funky music towards the end got my attention , i liked it, i also liked the contrast with the music at the beginning, it really affected my mood'

' i found it funny how Johnny had his headphones in because i always have mine in'

' Their could of been more footage of his home life and less of the dancing scenes'

Question 5 - What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Question 6 - Looking back at the preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
Life on Mars - This was the first task we did. Within this task we learn how to use technology such as the camera, tripod and Dolly. We also became familiar with using final cut express to edit our footage. In this task we watched a extract from 'life on mars', we then had to reproduce our own. By watching the clip and reproducing it we learn a variety of shots and we also learnt how to take our own.  I gained knowledge on the preparation needed to start filming, for example filming in a safe suitable area, If weather conditions are suitable, If a Dolly will be needed, if it is quiet without disruptions and more. When filming the variety of shots you was able to learn able different angles and what looks good and what would make the shot better. When all footage was filmed I then developed skills with final cut express and editing.

Continuity editing – In this preliminary task, as well as becoming more familiar with working with the camera, tripod and Dolly. We also gained knowledge and understanding about match-on-match action and we also learnt about sticking to the 180 degree rule. When using match on match action is makes it more interesting for the audience to watch and by using the 180 degree rule it makes it easier for the audience to follow as all action will either be on the left OR right side of the actors. When creating my film opening I stuck to the 180 degree rule as I discovered from this task it made the film opening easier to follow. We learn about filming shot reverse shots when a conversation is taking place. I also used shot reverse shot in my film opening to show  a connection between the people in the shots.

This is an example of Match on match action in my continuity editing.

Creating My Film opening

Creating my Film Opening

I started to film my film opening on two separate occasions, I carried out a risk assessment to make sure it was a suitable place to film, From doing research on other film openings and looking at different shots used and planning what shots i wanted to get it made filming a lot easier due to planning. When filming the start of my film opening i used a tripod and a dolly to help film and make the camera steady with smooth movements. When Filming the dancing scenes i used a dolly to help keep the camera extra steady and make all tracking movement smooth. I done this as i felt with fast heavy dance movement might cause the tripod and camera to shake.

After filming my footage i had a variety of shots and more then enough footage. I then uploaded it to 'Final cut express' to start editing and include my titles and music.

I started to cut my footage down to the stuff i wanted to include and place them in chronological order.  From previously creating a story board with titles included it made it a lot easier to include the titles to my final piece.

Once i had included all my titles and edited it i started to add my music and sound.

Their are two pieces of music in my film opening that are very contrasting. The music i used came from 'Lglf audio network' and 'garage band'. I had two pieces of contrasting music as i wanted it to have a effect on the audience. I wanted the music to reflect the mood felt in the scene so i was using music as a leif motif. At the start it start a sad ambient music to show the emotion of the main character Johnny. When he then arrives at school which is his escape from a unhappy home his mood changes as he feels safe and he also then notices the dancing. This is when he becomes interested in dance and he is fascinated with it.

STORY BOARD

This is my story board that i have made in preparation to help me create my film opening and title sequence. It consists of 21 shots with a variety of shots such as, shot reverse shot, Long shot, Close up, 360 shot, tracking shot, panning shot and many more.

I Then started to create my title sequence on final cut express. I started adding my titles over the images.

Title sequence

Production Company - Imagine Entertainment
Presents - BBC Film
Film title -
Actor - Daniel Smith
Actor - Camila Brown
Actor - Ciara Olive
Actor - Dean Neighbour
Costumes design - Amber Salomone
Choreographed by Scarlet Pestell
Music by - Matt Hill
Editor - Nancy Richardson
Co-producer - Carol Fenelon
Produced by Brian Grazer
Written by - Duane Adler
Directed by Jessica Coulson

I choose imagine entertainment and BBC film is because they have worked on similar films as to what i am producing such as billy elliot. I have included the actors and costume and choreographer i will actually be using. I have chosen people who have worked on many similar films before to appear in my titles to show i have researched similar films and researched people.

After researching similar films i have chosen my titles to go in a certain order. After looking at similar films i noticed a pattern in the order of titles. due to this i have placed my titles in the order i think they should go. I first wanted to introduce the production company and who presents to introduce the audience to who is representing this film. I then introduced the actors as the actors are seen on the screen. At the music started and the dancing is seen i included the choreographer and who the music was by as i felt it was was convenient and would work well like that. To finish my title sequence i had 'written by' and 'directed by' as it is very professional.

Purpose of a film opening

The purpose of a film opening is to give you a gist and idea of what the film is about. In the opening sequence of a film it will have to get the audiences attention so they continue to watch.
In the opening of a film it shows you the characters that will play a part in the film. It will also indicate what genre film it is. Credits will be seen in the opening of the film to introduce you to the people who worked on the film and the film company.

In the opening of the film 'kill bill'  Before you seen any of the film a quote appears on screen ' Revenge is a dish best served cold' This automatically implies the film will be about revenge. You first hear heavy breathing in a panic and then the women is then seen on screen. she is covered in blood and scared. This portrays the film to be an action pact film, it also indicates that this women will play a key role in the rest of the film. The film at the start is in black and white and this means that they are in a different time period. At the end of this scene the credits appear with slow non-diagetic music. Then the next shot we see is of a house in colour and the same women appears and the action film then begins.
